Gulf Coast teams finish strong

Eli Taylor homered twice and Gulf Coast got two dominant pitching performances as the Commodores polished off host St. John’s River on Saturday and Broward on Sunday to finish an unbeaten weekend in junior college baseball games played in Palatka.

 

The Gulf Coast softball team had three pitchers combine on the team’s first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Lakeland on Saturday evening to culminate play in the FPU Classic played in Marianna and hosted by Chipola.

 

The Commodores improved to 8-2 in baseball. Taylor had a homer and four runs batted in during a 9-2 win against St. John’s River. Alec Wisely had three hits and Josh Nowak three hits and an RBI. Jordan Tylski and Jeffrey Omohundro also knocked in runs.

 

Austin Krzeminski pitched into the sixth inning allowing five hits and a walk against six strikeouts while moving to 2-0. Greg Loukinen, Trey Leonard and Ken Adair finished, Adair striking out all four batters he faced.

 

Taylor had a two-run homer in a 6-1 triumph over Broward on Sunday. Jackson Webb had three hits and an RBI, Wisely two hits and an RBI and Joe Sibeto knocked in a run.

 

Wisely pitched the distance in the seven-inning game allowing a solo home run among seven hits. He walked two and struck out seven.

 

The Gulf Coast softball team won three of five games in the FPU Classic to improve to 9-4. The Lady Commodores blanked Lakeland 4-0 as Kristina Manthei pitched four innings, Brittany Lee two and Payton Carpenter one, the trio combining on a three-hitter.

 

Kynadi Tipler had three hits and three RBIs. Annsley Brown added three hits, Bailey Burk two and Alexis Marchozzi had an RBI.

 

The baseball team returns to Bill Frazier Field this week to host Shelton State in four games. The series opens 5 p.m. Thursday, the teams play a doubleheader starting 1 p.m. Friday and the four-game set concludes Saturday at 1 p.m.

 

The Lady Commodores travel to play in the Faulkner Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They will play five games beginning 6 p.m. Friday against Georgia Highlands.
