Gulf Coast ended a streak of four consecutive one-run games with a 10-6 triumph over Chattahoochee State on Saturday in the first game of a junior college softball doubleheader in Phenix City, Alabama.

Gulf Coast’s baseball team took a nine-game winning streak into a doubleheader against Andrew College at Cuthbert, Georgia, and rallied in the seventh inning of the opener to push it to 10.

The Commodores, 16-2, made it a sweep with a 10-5 win in the second game. They have not lost since Super Bowl Sunday.

The Lady Commodores, 11-7, had lost three of four games entering Saturday’s twinbill, but simply outscored Chattahoochee in the opener by smashing 13 hits.

Winning pitcher Payton Carpenter had three hits and three runs batted in. Bailey Burk and Annsley Brown each had two hits and Kynadi Tipler had three RBIs and Jenna Ewing two.

Rashard Ranie had a single, home run and three RBIs in Game 1, the Commodores rallying from a one-run deficit with five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Jordan Tylski had two hits and two RBIs and Jeffrey Omohundro a run batted in.

The comeback made Greg Loukinen the winning pitcher in relief of starter Trever Kilcrease, who yielded all three runs in four innings. Loukinen finished with three scoreless frames.

A six-run fourth inning enabled Gulf Coast to take the lead for good in the second game. Alec Aleywine had a single, two doubles, a homer and two RBIs to pace a 12-hit attack.

Eli Taylor had two hits and two RBIs, Jackson Webb a hit and two RBIs and Jacquez Koonce two hits and two runs.

Alec Wisely had a rare poor start on the mound, but Jackson Cullen tossed four and one-third shutout innings in relief.

The softball team was scheduled to play a second game against Chattahoochee State on Saturday, and plays five games in the Jimmy Stewart Classic next weekend hosted by Northwest Florida State.

The Commodores host IMG Academy in a doubleheader starting 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Frazier Field.
