GC sweeps doubleheader, runs win streak to 5

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Gulf Coast baseball team swept a doubleheader over Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette, making it five wins in a row and improving to 13-6 on the season.

Brad Lord started on the mound and got the decision in the first game, an 8-4 win, going five innings and giving up three earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. Alex Lozado pitched two scoreless innings to get the save, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Kyler Hultgren and Justin Kelley each had two hits to lead Gulf Coast offensively, with Jordan Henshaw adding a hit and two RBI. Stevie Moffatt, Reid Halfacre, Brett Wisely, and Lozado all had a hit and RBI each.

The Commodores took the second game 9-7 thanks to a five-run seventh inning, with Wisely having a monster day with three home runs and five RBI. Kelley also homered and Moffatt added three doubles and two runs.

Lozado had two hits and Halfacre was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Parker Dean got the win for two scoreless innings of relief to close the game, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Peyton Knight got the start and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits and two walks with a strikeout.
