The Gulf Coast baseball team opened the regular season Sunday in Montgomery, Ala., with a doubleheader sweep of Faulkner.

The Commodores won the first game 2-0 and the second 11-0, with five GC pitchers combining to throw 12 no-hit innings.

Alex Lozado started on the mound and pitched four perfect innings in the opener, striking out before giving way to Parker Dean, who allowed just one walk with six strikeouts over the final three innings.

Dallen Leach got Gulf Coast on the board with a solo home run to left field with one out in the second inning, with Brayden Gainey walking to lead off the seventh, stealing second base, moving to third on a sacrifice, and scoring on a ground ball by Tyler Borges for the second run.

Eli Ellington started on the mound in the second game and went three innings, striking out six and walking two. Avery Stephens and Austin Kapela pitched the final two innings to close it out.

Brett Roberson had two hits, two runs, and an RBI for the Commodores, while Reid Halfacre had a hit, a run, and a team-best three RBI. Kyler Hultgren and Borges both scored twice.

Gulf Coast blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, with Hultgren bringing in the first run of the frame with an RBI triple before scoring on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

A Faulkner error on a ground ball by Halfacre allowed Borges and Roberson to score to make it 6-0, with Halfacre later coming in to score on another error before Max Ryerson brought in Cam Irvine with a ground ball to first base.

The Commodores added tacked on to the lead with a three-run fifth featuring RBI singles by Halfacre and Roberson.

Halfacre and Irvine led Gulf Coast with three total hits over the two games.

Gulf Coast will return to action Friday in Fort Myers against ASA College.
