The Gulf Coast women’s and men’s basketball teams each bounced back from losses to pick up tough wins away from home Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Commodores (4-1) were coming off of a 68-65 loss to Wabash Valley on Friday night in Vincennes, Ind. Gulf Coast took on the host team Saturday and overcame a poor fourth quarter to hold on for a 68-65 victory.

It’s the second win this season for the Gulf Coast women over Vincennes, with the first coming Nov. 9 in Niceville. On Saturday, the Lady Commodores jumped out to a 40-28 halftime lead and took a 15-point advantage into the fourth.

Vincennes outscored Gulf Coast 15-4 in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the rally. Naomi Mbandu led Gulf Coast with 16 points and eight rebounds, with Brittany Davis adding 13 points, and Dominique Banks 12 points. Diéné Diané also had eight points. Jaynice Stovall was the top scorer for Vincennes with 18 points.

The Lady Commodores will return to action Nov. 27 when they make their home debut against Lurleen B. Wallace. The Gulf Coast men also got back into the win column following a 20-point loss to Southwest Mississippi on Friday, knocking off Spartanburg Methodist 76-75 in Niceville.

Gulf Coast trailed by three at halftime but outscored Spartanburg Methodist 40-36 in the second half. Jacolbey Owens scored 25 points on 7 of 15 from the field, 3 of 4 from the 3-point line, and 8 of 10 from the free throw line to lead the Commodores.
