NICEVILLE -- Annsley Brown's walkoff hit in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Gulf Coast a 5-4 triumph over Southern Union on Saturday in the Jimmy Stewart Classic junior college softball tournament hosted by Northwest Florida State.

The victory followed a 10-2 run-rule loss to LSU-Eunice earlier in the day.

The Lady Commodores, 15-8, rebounded behind the combined pitching of Payton Carpenter and Brittany Lee, who limited Southern Union to five hits. The Lady Bison had tied the game 4-4 with a single run in the top of the sixth to bring about Brown's heroics.

Gulf Coast had 10 hits, Brown, Bailey Burk and Kynadi Tipler with two apiece.

LSU-Eunice broke open the game with five runs in the third inning and scored in every inning except the first while pounding 12 hits. Lee and Carpenter again pitched for Gulf Coast, which had 10 hits.

The Lady Commodores were scheduled to face LSU-Eunice once more on Saturday. They are idle until hosting Lake Michigan College in a doubleheader 3 p.m. Friday. It will be their first home game since hosting the Visit Panama City Beach Classic at Frank Brown Park on Feb. 3 and 4.

The twinbill also will be Gulf Coast's first games at home venue Joe Tom King Field this season.
