TALLAHASSEE — Gulf Coast yielded two late runs to both league-leading Chipola and to last-place Pensacola while dropping a Panhandle Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday.

The Lady Commodores fell 2-0 to Chipola when the Indians scored two runs in the fifth inning, then had their late comeback foiled when Pensacola had a walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning in a 5-3 setback.

The results left Gulf Coast settled solidly in third place in the conference. Chipola was 14-1 with a meeting with Northwest Florida State, 9-5, later Saturday. Tallahassee was 4-12 and Pensacola 4-13, also with games pending.

Bailey Burk had Gulf Coast’s lone hit against Chipola, and Deborah Fernanda knocked in both runs for the Lady Indians with one of their two total hits.

Gulf Coast fell behind Pensacola 2-1 after three innings, but rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth and led 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Pirates rallied to force extra innings and prevailed in the ninth.

Brittany Lee had three hits and Annsley Brown and Kynadi Tipler two each for the Lady Commodores. Samantha Burks had two runs batted in.

Gulf Coast plays a doubleheader at Northwest Florida State on Tuesday in Niceville.
