NICEVILLE — The top-ranked Gulf Coast women’s basketball team cruised to an easy 94-41 victory over Snead State in its regular season opener Friday afternoon at Northwest Florida State College.

Dominique Banks led the way with 26 points on 12 of 16 shooting from the field to go with six rebounds and three blocks, while Jhileiya Dunlap and Alexus Dye each added 16 points. Dunlap added four blocks and Dye seven rebounds. Keshawn Johnson had 10 points, three steals, and two blocks.

Catlin Carter led Snead State with 12 points, followed by Tamia Willingham-King with 11. The Lady Commodores will play again Saturday in Niceville against Volunteer State before making their home debut Friday against Vincennes.

“For the first game and for having had so many changes here lately offensively, things looked good,” Gulf Coast coach Roonie Scovel said. “We had some shining moments and some others that we definitely need to get back to practice on Monday and work on. Overall, to have the running game going like it did (was great). We played really, really hard at times and played really well, and other times it looked like we were playing our first game.”

Gulf Coast dominated from the opening tip, jumping out to a 30-10 halftime lead and extending the margin to 28 points at the break. The Lady Commodores outscored Snead State 24-6 in the third quarter to take a 75-29 advantage into the fourth.
