January 28, 2012 10:06:25 PM

News Herald Staff

PANAMA CITY — Gulf Coast had another lackluster night at the plate, but you can blame a lot of that on Darton College this time.

Unlike on Friday, when the Commodores’ squandered not only a lead but chances at-bat, the Cavaliers’ pitchers stymied GC’s hitters and provided few opportunities. Darton hurlers Tyler Oglesby and Shawn Thomas scattered six hits for a 3-1 victory on Saturday at Bill Frazier Field in improving to 2-0 on the second day of the First Pitch Classic.

PANAMA CITY — Baseball season openers were not created to showcase perfection.

That much was evident on Friday, when Gulf Coast State opened the First Pitch Classic at Bill Frazier Field with a 9-6 loss to Gordon College of Georgia. First games are for learning lessons and the Commodores learned two important ones after failing to hold onto a 5-1 lead.
