Michael Kandler is anxious to begin his 7th season as the Head Baseball Coach at Gulf Coast State College. Coach Kandler has been coaching for 25 years. Coach Kandler has a career record of 516-257 (.667 winning %). His record at the helm of the Commodores is an impressive 203-101 (.667 winning %). His team's have won two Panhandle Conference Championships (2006, 2010) and have made three State Tournament appearances (2006, 2007, 2010).

While at Gulf Coast, Coach Kandler has coached 4 All-Americans and 11 players that have signed professional baseball contracts. Having coached over 60 players who have been drafted, including big-leaguers, David Herndon, Bob Wickman and Tim Spooneybarger, Coach Kandler is no stranger to developing big-time talent.

Prior to coming to Gulf Coast, Coach Kandler spent 5 years at Alabama Southern Community College. While at ASCC Coach Kandler's teams combined for a record of 180-104 and qualified for 4 regional tournaments. He coached 3 All-Americans and over 30 players that went on to play at the next level.

Prior to his stop at Alabama Southern, Coach Kandler was the head coach at Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida for six years. His record at Pine Forest was 133-51. His Pine Forest teams qualified for the state playoffs 5 times, made two final-8 appearances and one final-4 appearance in 1997.

Coach Kandler has also coached at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the University of California-San Diego and was the assistant coach here at Gulf Coast from 1991-94.

Coach Kandler brings an intense, enthusiastic approach to coaching baseball. Gulf Coast promises to be a hard-nosed, aggressive team under his direction. The Commodores should be a fundamentally sound team that is extremely fun to watch.

Alex Kubal returns to Gulf Coast State College for the  2012 season as an Assistant Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator, and will be the hitting and outfield coach for the Commodores baseball team.

A volunteer assistant at Northwestern State in 2011.  Kubal’s duties included coaching the outfielders, base runners, Coordinating the NSU’s baseball camps, and assisting with the hitters. Kubal’s Outfielders fielded a Southland conference best .981.

In 2009, Alex Kubal begin his coaching career at his alummater The University of Alabama as a student assistant as well as a strength and conditioning coach for the baseball team and men’s golf. While at Alabama his duties included coaching the outfielders and being the 1st base coach. As well as assisting with the hitters and base runners. Kubals star pupil was Taylor Dugas who claimed 1st team all American honors by baseball America and a recipient of the Rawlings Gold Glove award given to the SEC’s best defensive players. The 2009-2010 Crimson Tide team placed 2nd in the SEC tournament losing to LSU in extra inning 5-4 in the Championship game in Hoover, AL. The Tide went on to win the Georgia Tech Regional and went on to the Clemson Super Regional and but was eliminated in the championship game.

Kubal played in 104 games and made 84 starts during his two-year career with the Tide. He hit .321 (94-for-293) with eight home runs and 39 RBI. He also added 63 runs scored, 18 doubles and 20 stolen bases. His best season came as a junior, where he hit .329 (48-for-146) during the 2008 season. He hit four home runs in both 2008 and 2009. He also appeared in 52 career SEC games with 44 starts. As junior, he hit .310 (49-for-158) in conference play with three home runs and 19 RBI. His best year was his senior year, where he hit a team-best .359 (33-for-92) in league play in 2009 with 22 runs scored, two homers and 12 RBI in 2009.

He played junior college baseball at Gulf Coast State College, where he was a First-Team All-Panhandle Conference selection, after a team best batting average of hitting .372 with two home runs and 30 RBI in 2007. He is ranked seventh on the school's single-season chart with 73 hits and also 5th for most doubles in a season with 17.

Kubal originally signed with Concordia University-St. Paul, where he played one season for Coach Mark McKenzie. He was named the 2006 Freshman of the Year in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and was a First-Team All-NSIC selection. Kubal helped the Golden Bears to a 29-12-1 overall, including a 13-5 mark and third place finish in the NSIC. In 42 starts, he posted a .373 batting average (53-for-142) with four home runs and 29 RBI.

A 2005 graduate of Minnetonka (Minn.) High School where he was a three-year starter for Coach Jim Nunn, where he was a two-time All-State selection.
