PANAMA CITY — Six Gulf Coast sophomores had a chance to cap their collegiate careers with one final hurrah at home Saturday night.

Instead, like they had in the last seven games, they trudged off the floor with heads hung low.

Tallahassee was the team determined to get out and run, and the Eagles rolled to a 70-54 victory over Gulf Coast in a Panhandle Conference men’s basketball game at the Billy Harrison Field House.

PANAMA CITY — It was a long walk back to the office for Gulf Coast men’s basketball coach Jay Powell Wednesday night.

“The joy of winning does not outweigh the pain of losing,” Powell said minutes after Gulf Coast came up short in a 77-72 loss to Pensacola at the Billy Harrison Field House.

NICEVILLE — Northwest Florida State College men’s basketball coach Steve Forbes had compared his team’s final round of Panhandle conference games to the final rounds of a prize fight.

But it sure beats the alternative.
