Lady Commodores sweep weekend conference matches
The Lady Commodores volleyball team continued their strong conference play this past weekend, earning three consecutive sweeps over South Florida State, Palm Beach State, and Indian River State.
The week began with a dominant performance against South Florida State, where the Lady Commodores rolled past the Lady Panthers by scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-5. Danna Aguilera led the way with 10 kills and 10 digs. Middle hitter Skylar Johnston added six kills while hitting .600, and setter Melany Salazar set the tone with 33 assists, three kills, and four service aces. Middle hitter Kya Colston was also a key factor, recording nine kills on an impressive .727 hitting percentage with two blocks, while Outside hitter Hannah Ottley chipped in six kills on a .545 hitting percentage.
On Friday, the Lady Commodores kept their momentum rolling against Palm Beach State, defeating the Lady Panthers 25-12, 25-18, and 25-10. Aguilera once again delivered a standout performance with 12 kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and 14 digs. Johnston contributed five kills and hit .556%, while Salazar recorded 32 assists and added three service aces. Defensively, Miliani Avila-Bauzo anchored the back row with 14 digs.
The weekend concluded with a sweep over Indian River State by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-14. Colston tallied eight kills and three blocks, while Salazar had 23 assists and added three service aces. Johnston rounded out the effort with four service aces of her own.
Currently ranked No. 7 in the nation, the Lady Commodores now shift their focus to a highly anticipated matchup against No. 8 Pensacola State on Tuesday, September 16, at 6 p.m. inside the Billy Harrison Fieldhouse. Both teams enter the contest undefeated in conference play.
