Panama City, FL – The Lady Commodores added another unforgettable chapter to their season on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Lady Vikings of St. Johns River in a thrilling five-set showdown inside the Billy Harrison Fieldhouse. With the victory, Gulf Coast notched its 32nd consecutive regular season conference win dating back to 2023, while remaining the only undefeated team in conference play this year.
The Commodores opened the match with authority, racing out to an early lead in the first set and never allowing St. Johns River within striking distance. Behind steady defense and sharp execution, Gulf Coast secured the opener 25-17.
Momentum swung in the second set as both teams traded points in a back-and-forth battle. Despite strong rallies, the Lady Commodores came up just short, dropping the set 23-25. The third set told a similar story, with Gulf Coast controlling much of the action until late communication errors allowed the Lady Vikings to surge ahead, stealing the set 20-25.
With their backs against the wall, the Lady Commodores regrouped in the fourth set. Resetting their focus, they delivered a balanced attack and tightened up defensively to earn a convincing 25-19 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.
The final set belonged entirely to Gulf Coast. Sophomore Rylee Warren sparked the momentum with back-to-back service aces, igniting the crowd and energizing her team. From there, the Lady Commodores were unstoppable, dominating the set 15-4 to seal the hard-fought victory.
"This was the kind of match that shows our character and fight," said Head Coach Scott Allen. "We faced adversity, made adjustments, and in the end, our team's energy and resilience carried us through."
With Sunday's win, the Lady Commodores continue their impressive run of conference dominance and remain firmly atop the standings.
